This site is dedicated to Anna Pavlova (1881-1931) and to the balletschool in Leiden, Holland, that bore her name (1981-2000)
Pavlova School of Classical Ballet was founded in Leiden, the Dutch university town situated between Amsterdam and The Hague, 100 years after Anna Pavlova's birth and 50 years after her death. Three-quarter century after her death, Anna Pavlova, prima ballerina assoluta, is still remembered as one of the luminaries of classical ballet, and as one who with considerable charisma introduced countless people the world over to that art, so what other dancer to honour in 1981 than Anna Pavlova? After completing almost 19 years, on 1 September 2000 the Pavlova School closed its doors for good. It was decided to keep alive the school's website, in order to develop this into a useful source on the teaching of older amateur dancers, which was what Pavlova School of Classical Ballet has succesfully specialized in during the years of its existence. But above all we want this site to be a meeting place for all who take an interest in the art and person of Anna Pavlova
