Born October 27th 1947 as son of a farmer on the farm on the island Tiengemeten.
After secondary school (Rijks HBS) at Oud-Beijerland I went to the Technical College (HTS) at Dordrecht to study Physical Techniques . After that I went to the University of Technology (TH) at Eindhoven to study Technical Physics followed by a postgraduate research at the sub faculty Dentistry of the Medical faculty of the University of Utrecht.
After finishing that research with a thesis (MD) I was a few years unemployed. There were no jobs in medical research at that moment. Medical research was what I learned and what I like to do. During that time looking for a job and applying I did a lot of volunteering work at the primary school on which our children were, at the rugby club where I was member and at the community centres in our region. This all stopped abruptly when I started applying in education. During my study I also took teaching qualifications. From that moment I started teaching part time physics, mathematics, computer studies at a grammar school (Stedelijk Gymnasium) at Amersfoort and a secondary night school for adults (Van Maerland Lyceum) at Eindhoven.
In 1985 I also started teaching for the faculty of Technical Science of the Dutch Open University which started that year.
This meant tutoring adult students in control engineering, electronics, computer science and informatics. First in two study centres at Den Bosch and Nijmegen and soon after that also at
study centre Utrecht. This job grows to a full time job at study centre Utrecht in the city where we lived. So the work for the other schools and other study centres finished, I did not have to travel so much any more and I could go to my work on bike every day.
From that moment I worked full time at study centre Utrecht, mainly in the field of artificial intelligence and knowledge engineering.
Besides tutor I was also examiner for a couple of courses, I wrote courses and sometimes I was course team leader too. Since January 2010 I am retired.
Most important unpaid activity until 2001 was sporting. Especially Rugby successively at the next clubs THE Elephants, USRS, URC, De Oldfants and again URC. Besides that I spend the rare free moments that left with restoration of old motorbikes. As a combination of both rugby and motorbikes my Whith weekend is always occupied. Then we go on trip with a couple of mortobikers from URC. Also the maintenance of my old house in the region Lombok ask a lot of attention, which I love to do myself.
I have two adult children: Cecile lives in Enschede, she finished her study technical physics at the Technical University (UT) at Enschede. After her study she specialized to clinical physicist in the Spectrum hospital in Enschede and became her master degree in Neurology at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Now she works as clinical physicist in the Spectrum hospital and is doing neuro-physical research to become her PhD degree . Schilleman, is a freelance theater technician. Therefore he has his own company and lives in Utrecht. I am divorced since September 1996. Since July 2004 Olga lives with me.
